bureau^proberts has been announced as a finalist in the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards 2024, in the Creative Industries category.

The practice has a long-standing affinity with the Middle East and has designed and delivered commissions in China and South-East Asia. A growing international portfolio has led to the recent opening of the practice’s new London office.

bureau^proberts Creative Director Liam Proberts notes the firm has been involved with international projects and clients for more than 15 years. He observes a growing trend toward working with Australian architects and designers, attributing it to the exceptional quality and strong reputation of Australia’s design industry.

“Our experience shows that our Australian design work consistently attracts attention from international clients,” Proberts says.

“We integrate our global experiences to enhance our local projects and bring local insights to our international work.”

Now in their 34th year, the Export Awards recognise Queensland businesses for their innovation, resilience, and determination, as they strive to grow and expand their global footprint. Queensland’s exports are estimated to be valued at $134 billion and support one in five jobs in the state.

Premier Steven Miles says the awards recognise the strength, range and diversity of Queensland exporters and the impact they have on the state’s economy.

“Queensland has a global reputation for being the home of the best and brightest minds and businesses and it’s so important we celebrate them,” he says.

“From our food and agriculture, mining and resources, advanced technology, creative industries, advanced manufacturing to education and training, the sunshine state is shining bright around the world.”

bureau^proberts’ notable international projects include the Australian Pavilion, designed for Expo 2020 in Dubai, and Wahat al Karama – an art installation in Abu Dhabi – with Urban Art Projects.

The Australian Pavilion, commissioned by the Australian Government, was among the most popular and engaging pavilions at Expo.

It attracted 1.6 million in-person visitors and 30 million virtual visitors from October 2021 to March 2022.

The practice’s export success is evidenced by its ideas, sense of commerciality and design skills, which resonate strongly in both the Australian and international markets.

The awards will be announced at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 4 September 2024.
